U.S. Socialists to Send Delegation to the Antifascist Conference
Ten days before its major opening march, the First International Antifascist Conference continues to grow and consolidate itself, with U.S. socialists forming an important part of its composition
From March 26 to 29, the First International Antifascist Conference will be held in Porto Alegre, Brazil. The United States will be represented at the event by approximately 15 activists from across the country.
The presence of the U.S. delegation is of great importance. At the moment, Trump serves as a global inspiration for the far right and for neo-fascism. Alongside Israel, U.S. imperialism sponsors the war with Iran, its consequences across the Middle East, and the genocide in Gaza. In Latin America, Trump bombed Venezuela, kidnapped the country’s president, and threatens Cuba.
The world is under threat from Trump’s policies, driven by the greed of billionaires and by an ultra-reactionary ideology. At the same time, internal resistance and the struggles of the U.S. working class inspire activism worldwide. The clearest example was the mobilization in Minneapolis, followed by the nationalization of the struggle against ICE. It should also be remembered that on March 28 Americans will once again take to the streets for another No Kings day of mobilizations.
In the main program of the International Antifascist Conference, three U.S. activists linked to the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) will participate as panelists: Abdul O., a city councilor in the state of Connecticut; Cyn H., co-chair of the Bread and Roses caucus; and Jana S., a university professor. The group has registered two self-organized activities and will also have a member of its National Political Committee, Cerena E., participating in the program.
Through its International Committee, DSA is officially part of the call and organization of the event. Members of the group’s youth and labor movement will also be in Porto Alegre.
